how to fix kitchen counters that were built around a 27 inch wide stove?

the current stove is a 1960's hideous green-all new stoves are 28in or more in width- what can I do? I can't find new stove this broadness- will I have to get rid of some counterspace in order to fit a newer stove?

There is a 1/4" to 1/2" of boundary of counter top on each side that can be cut down without cutting cabinets. There is also a 1/2" lip on cabinets that can be cut down.
